The Lord said to Gideon, “With the 300 men who lapped I will deliver the whole army[a] and I will hand Midian over to you.[b] The rest of the men should go home.”[c] The men[d] who were chosen[e] took supplies[f] and their trumpets. Gideon[g] sent all the men of Israel back to their homes;[h] he kept only 300 men. Now the Midianites[i] were camped down below[j] in the valley.

Gideon Reassured of Victory

That night the Lord said to Gideon,[k] “Get up! Attack[l] the camp, for I am handing it over to you.[m]
